Introduction
Did you know that you can earn cryptocurrencies with your YouTube videos?
Yes, you can!
The thing is, there are many ways how you can make money with your YouTube channel.
You would be familiar with YouTube's partner program which gives you the option to run ads on your videos, start a YouTube channel membership, accept donations in form of super chats and super stickers, or earn commissions with your own merch shelf below your videos.
And many YouTube creators also realized they can earn even more with external platforms and services such as paid memberships on Patreon, with affiliate marketing, or by selling physical and digital goods and services.
However, in this particular article, we will focus on earning purely crypto with your channel and explore some of the best methods how you can go about it and of course, how to keep your virtual coins safe.
Creating a Multi-Cryptocurrencies Wallet
Before we get started with earning cryptocurrencies, let's start by creating a secure wallet first.
Since the price of Bitcoin went through the roof, many bad actors entered the playing field to steal or defraud other people's precious coins.
To prevent this you have to create a secure wallet that follows best practices to prevent hacking.
Why You Should Get a Hardware Wallet for Your Crypto
I recommend investing in a hardware wallet for cryptocurrencies. A hardware wallet stores the user's private keys on a secure hardware device.
Private keys are completely isolated from your computer or smartphone with hardware wallets, so they cannot be hacked by outsiders.
Trezor model t
The best hardware wallet in my opinion is the Trezor Model T.
It gives you full control over your bitcoins and more than 1600+ other crypto coins & tokens. It means that your funds will not be frozen or lost by a third party. However, you are still responsible for protecting and backing up your wallet.
This wallet is open-source and built deterministically. Any developer can audit the code and make sure there are no secrets in the final software.
The wallet is loaded using a secure specialized environment provided by the device. This provides excellent protection against computer vulnerabilities and malware since no software can be installed in this environment.
The complimentary Trezor Model T software wallet offers payment validation, privacy controls, and fee control features.
Once you received your hardware wallet via mail, it's time to set it up.
Connect your hardware wallet to your computer via USB. Install the latest firmware. Create a new wallet and paper backup so you can always restore your wallet on a new device if your hardware wallet ever gets lost. Set up a pin to access your wallet and to verify transactions.
Now you can create as many receiving addresses for any supported cryptocurrency.
Whatever coins are sent to any of your receiving addresses will be protected by your hardware wallet and cannot be withdrawn by anyone, who doesn't have access to your hardware device + pin or your paper backup.
You can read the Trezor Getting Started Guide for more details.
How to Create a Software Wallet for Your Tokens
If you're not quite ready for a hardware wallet yet, I recommend setting up a software wallet.
Atomic Wallet is a decentralized non-custodial wallet. In other words, you own your backup phrase and private keys, so you are in complete control of your funds.
Atomic Wallet has no access to your wallet and your sensitive information. The 12-word backup and private keys are stored locally on your device and strongly encrypted.
The wallet connects directly to the blockchain nodes and displays all of your balances, transaction history, and everything else in your wallet, and allows you to perform transactions on the blockchain.
Keep your device safe.
Atomic Wallet is not a hardware wallet. If your device is compromised, the wallet can also be compromised. Do not share your 12-word backup or private keys with anyone.
If you lose your backup, you will lose your funds. Make sure your password is strong. Store your password in a trusted password manager after generating a unique one for Atomic Wallet.
Atomic wallet
Download Atomic Wallet and install it on your computer or smartphone.
Open the application and click on Create Wallet.
Set up a strong and secure password.
Next, write down your 12-word backup phrase. This is a crucial point for securing your assets. Your backup phrase is highly important. You should save the phrase in the most secure way you can think of.
Store it offline in two different places.
Once you have written it down click on Open Wallet.
That’s it! Your wallet is now ready to use.
How to Earn Crypto From YouTube Video Views
How can you earn crypto with your YouTube videos?
Unfortunately, YouTube itself doesn't provide any built-in monetization tools that would allow you to accept crypto donations or memberships on your YouTube channel.
But there are several workarounds.
Share your crypto donation link in the video description
You can either add your your public wallet address in the description of your videos:
Or share a link to your crypto payment gateway for easy donations:
Want to support me and my channel? Buy me a coffee with crypto.
Share your crypto donation link in the pinned comment
Alternatively, you can share the same information in your pinned comment.
If you want to be extra thorough, why not share it in both your description and pinned comment for twice the donations. 😉
Tell people about crypto donations in your videos
You can also let viewers know that they can support you with crypto and that they can find your public wallet addresses or crypto payment link in your video description or pinned comment.
Share your crypto donation link in a video overlay
This can be combined with a video URL that shows your crypto payment URL.
I highly recommend creating a short-URL, for example on Bitly, that people can easily remember and type in their browser address bar from memory.
Share your crypto donation link in your subtitles
Another cool hack how to promote your crypto donation page is by adding your URL to your video subtitles.
Share your crypto donation link in an info card
Did you know that you can add links to your website in info cards throughout your video?
Just create a crypto donation page on your website and link to it from an info card and watch the coins roll in.
Share your crypto donation link on the endscreen of your video
You also have the option to add a prominent link to the last 20 seconds of your video in the so called end-screen. Just promote your crypto donation page there and you're in good shape.
Share your crypto donation link on your YouTube profile link
Last but not least, make sure that you edit the about section of your YouTube and add your crypto currency donation page to your link section.
This way interested viewers who explore your Youtube channel page will always see it at the top right corner.
Promote your crypto donation page on your YouTube profile banner
To get more people to click on your crypto donation page, write a call to action such as "Support the channel with crypto!" on your YouTube banner and add an arrow pointing towards the bottom right corner.
Alternatively, you can also add the URL of your crypto donation page on your YouTube banner.
Join Odysee's YouTube Partner Program
One of the best ways to earn free crypto virtually on autopilot is signing up for YouTube competitor Odysee.
You can sign up for Odysee's YouTube partner program via my link and start earning LBRY Credits (LBC) today.
By linking your YouTube account to Odysee, all of your public YouTube videos will be automatically imported into Odysee, as well as any future uploads.
LBRY Credits or LBC can be earned in several ways on Odysee.
You can earn free LBC coins via Odysee's reward program.
- Just for signing up.
- By linking your YouTube channel.
- By returning to the app within 24-48 hours.
- Daily watch reward for watching anything at all within a 24 hour period.
- By unlocking different levels for the number of videos watched on Odysee.
- By unlocking different levels for the number of channels you subscribed to.
- By unlocking different levels for the number of subscribers to your own channel.
- By inviting new users to join Odysee.
- By uploading videos.
- By receiving tips from viewers.
- By making some of your videos paid only.
- By earning custom codes for completing tasks in their Discord chat.
- By contributing as a developer/engineer.
You can also buy LBC, exchange it for other crypto or mine them yourself.
I recommend giving Odysee a try and take advantage of their reward system.
It's an amazing platform, you can earn free crypto plus it gives you a free backup of all of your YouTube videos.
How to Earn Coins With Live Streaming
Dlive
DLive is a live streaming service, similar to YouTube Live or Twitch.
Dlive uses its own cryptocurrency called Lemon.
You can earn Lemons by live streaming on Dlive. Viewers who enjoy your content can send you a tip in form of Lemon coins.
Once your channel has gained at least 200 followers, you can apply to become a Dlive Affiliate.
This allows you to set up paid membership subscriptions and to accept donations for your channel.
You can withdraw your earnings once you have verified your identity, earned at least 4,250 Lemons, and streamed for at least 3 days and 8 hours on DLive.
At this point, you can convert your Lemon tokens into US Dollars and wire them to your bank account, or receive crypto in form of TRON (TRX), BitTorrent (BTT), or Tether (USDT).
Twitch
Twitch is allowing viewers to buy their in-house currency called Bits via cryptocurrency, but there is currently no way to live streamers to accept crypto donations or to convert their Bits earnings into crypto.
Luckily, there is a way to get around this.
You can create add a custom donation button to your profile and link it to one of the popular crypto merchant services such as Coingate, Coinbase, or BitPay. You can read more about each of these three services in the donation section of this article.
Earn Crypto With In-Stream Ads
At his time, neither YouTube nor Odysee allows video creators to earn crypto from in-stream ads on their videos.
But as always, there is a small hack that allows you to earn Basic Attention Tokens (BAT).
All you have to do is to join the Brave Rewards program for content creators and connect your YouTube channel.
When someone is browsing the web via the Brave web browser they earn BAT.
These BAT token are automatically distributed to participating content creators and publishers who register their website, YouTube, Twitch, and Twitter account.
When someone watches your YouTube video on Brave, you will automatically receive crypto coins into your wallet.
Earn Crypto Coins With the Brave Browser
Brave Browser is based on the Google Chrome browser with additional features for privacy, safety, and an entire ecosystem based on blockchain technology.
Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) are earned when you view the opt-in ads on the Brave browser. Tokens are deposited into a secure wallet every month, and from there you can tip YouTube content creators directly.
The Brave Token offers creators a direct source of income while giving users the chance to tip their favorite creators.
In addition, users can use the Auto-Contribute feature to give a set amount of BAT to creators each month.
To earn BAT tokens as a verified content creator, you have to first join Brave Rewards.
Next, you have to set up your account and link your YouTube channel to your Brave Rewards account.
Once your account is linked you will automatically receive BAT crypto coins when Brave users watch your YouTube videos.
The distribution of BAT to content creators is based on attention, thus the name Basic Attention Token.
If you spend 90% of your time watching my YouTube videos and 10% on watching other content. 90% of your monthly donations would be distributed to me.
Since not many people know about the Brave Reward program, there is a great opportunity for every content right now.
Earn Crypto Currency From Sponsorships and Brand Partnerships
Sponsored content remains one of the top ways how video creators make money on YouTube.
YouTubers work with brands to promote brand awareness and specific products and services in their videos in exchange for payment and/or products.
If you want to earn crypto coins with your next brand partnership, just let them pay you in crypto coins.
Earn Crypto With Affiliate Marketing on YouTube
Most affiliate programs that allow you to earn crypto are run by companies within the crypto ecosystem.
That's great news if your YouTube channel reports on and creates content about all things crypto.
If your channel focuses on any niche other than crypto, I recommend sharing affiliate links to signup for a cryptocurrency marketplace in combination with instructions on how people can send you a donation in cryptocurrency.
This way you earn in two ways.
Sell Products on YouTube and Allow Viewers to Pay in Crypto
Featuring your own products and services in the video description and pinned comments is one of the BEST ways to earn money from YouTube.
You can sell physical products or digital products such as downloadable content, online courses, and virtual events.
To receive virtual coins for your orders, you have to signup for a cryptocurrency merchant account such as Coinbase or BitPay.
Accept Crypto Payments for Your Services
Selling services works similarly to selling products in exchange for crypto coins.
You can use a provider such as BitPay or Coinbase to create a payment button and then preconfigure it for the exact amount of your invoice.
Crypto Payment and Donation Platforms
Coinbase
My crypto marketplace of choice is Coinbase, it's super easy to use and allows you to collect, earn and sell various cryptocurrencies with ease.
Sign up for a free Coinbase account and verify your identity to activate your account. You now have a fully functional cryptocurrency wallet and have the ability to buy and sell coins and tokens on the Coinbase marketplace.
Next, head over to Coinbase Commerce and sign up for a free merchant account. Set up your account and then link your Coinbase Commerce account to your Coinbase to receive crypto coins directly into your wallet.
Click on "Checkouts" on the left menu, then on "Create checkout" on the top right corner.
Select "Accept Donations" and add title and description to your donation page.
Click on the "Link" tab to get the direct URL to your donation page. If you have a website, you can use the "Embed" code to embed a donation button directly on your site.
That's it! Now all you have to do is to share your link on YouTube.
Paid Memberships and Subscriptions With Crypto
Selling digital subscriptions such as paid membership sites is a bit of a tricky topic with cryptocurrencies.
Because of the way the blockchain works, it's almost impossible to implement anything remotely similar to a direct debit mechanism, that charges your wallet a recurring fee, every day, week, or month.
Asking people to manually wire a specific membership fee every 30 days doesn't work well either. It's just too tedious to remind people over and over again. Eventually, they will ignore the reminders and your monthly recurring revenue might tremble and fall.
One solution to this problem is to only offer extended subscription durations with advance payments for 6 or 12-months.
You can make a longer commitment more appealing by offering either a discount on longer subscriptions or additional bonuses.
Next Steps
As you can see, there are more ways how you can accept crypto donations and payments on YouTube than there are tokens on the market. 😉
If you want to start low-key with as little effort as possible, sign up for Odysee's YouTube Partner Program and Brave Rewards for Creators.
If you want to go all-in, create a Coinbase account and afterward a Coinbase Commerce account to design your own custom crypto donation or payment button and share the link it in all of your videos.
