How often should you post on LinkedIn as a business?

Today, I talk about the benefits of having a regular posting schedule on LinkedIn, discuss the best frequency for personal LinkedIn profiles and company pages, give tips on the ideal LinkedIn posting time, and share how to post more frequently without sacrificing quality.

Benefits of sharing content on LinkedIn as a business?

With over 1.1 billion users from more than 200 countries, LinkedIn has become the most important platform to do business, network, and find like-minded people worldwide.

There are 72.3 million official company pages on LinkedIn, and over 1 billion interactions take place on LinkedIn pages alone every month.

The number of conversations among LinkedIn members has increased by more than 55%.

Companies and business owners use LinkedIn for almost any business-related communication and B2B lead generation.

Posting content on LinkedIn is one of the best strategies for businesses of all sizes to develop thought leadership and build trust with potential clients in their industry and drive qualified traffic to their website.

96% of B2B marketers use LinkedIn to distribute their content, and in the last few years, the amount of user-generated content on LinkedIn has increased by over 60%.

How regularly should you post on your LinkedIn profile?

Sharing content on your LinkedIn profile gives you preferential treatment and extended organic reach by the LinkedIn newsfeed algorithm.

Audiences that follow thought leaders via their personal LinkedIn profiles are more demanding and have higher expectations regarding the quality of posts.

They expect that profile owners themselves should create unique content. Each post should have a recognizable style that is unique to the content creator.

Just queueing up a bunch of links of interesting articles you found online does not work on personal LinkedIn profiles. Content must be handwritten or personally recorded on video to get the most significant benefit.

This should be your primary decision criteria for how frequently you can publish.

Can you post daily while maintaining the quality that your target audience expects?

No? Then maybe a weekly schedule will work better for you.

Posting more frequently on personal LinkedIn profiles yields better results as a general rule of thumb.

I recommend posting daily or one to three times a week for the best results.

How frequently should you post on your LinkedIn company page?

The engagement with LinkedIn company page posts is usually much lower. There are two reasons for this phenomenon.

LinkedIn users have very low expectations for company pages and perceive most posts as boring, poorly written, too promotional, and lacking any value to the readers.

Users also feel less connected to anonymous brands than to other humans.

How to create a LinkedIn content calendar?

Monthly posting schedule

Posting only a few times a month is the minimum posting frequency for businesses.

I rarely recommend this schedule, unless you struggle with your schedule.

One drawback of posting infrequently is that you do not develop good content creation habits. That makes it very easy to drop the ball and forget that you were supposed to post on LinkedIn.

I recommend setting up a calendar reminder once per month, or every two weeks, to remind you to work on your monthly posting schedule, so you don't forget about it.

Due to the irregular posting schedule of once per month, it does not matter much whether you preplan and schedule your content or create it spontaneously.

Weekly posting schedule

To post two to three pieces of quality content on LinkedIn, you must plan your content in advance.

I recommend developing an overarching content cluster strategy based on the different phases of your customer lifecycle, including relevant questions and challenges they are regularly facing.

This content cluster strategy has to be translated into a specific content plan. I recommend planning specific social media posts for the next four to six weeks in advance.

Content, be it written content or video content, should be produced in bulk to take advantage of economies of scale.

Content can be scheduled in advance, but I highly recommend regularly reviewing your publishing schedule to make room for rescheduling preplanned content and replacing it with spontaneous, on-the-spot content if breaking news requires an immediate reaction.

Simply push back your existing content in favor of more urgent content in such a case.

Daily posting schedule

The daily sharing of content follows the same content production structure as the weekly posting schedule but requires more discipline.

To keep up with the required content volume, I recommend adding a couple of exciting filler topics to your content mix, for example, answering personal questions about you as the business owner.

Best time to post on LinkedIn

Is there an ideal time or weekday for publishing new content on LinkedIn? This highly depends on where most of the people in your ideal audience are based.

From my experience, you will achieve the highest amount of engagement when you share new content during people's office hours within their time zone.

For most people, that is 9 am to 4 pm.

Remember that people on Monday mornings and Friday afternoons are usually the least engaged because they are catching up with what happened over the weekend or are mentally already planning their next weekend.

I recommend selecting specific posting times and then sticking with them, for example, Tuesday morning, at 8 am.

This allows your target audience to form content habits and rituals and strengthen their relationship with you as the content creator.

When your readers and viewers expect to see your content on a specific topic on a particular day of the week at a precise time, they will start looking for your content and are more likely to engage with it.

Benefits of posting more frequently on LinkedIn

Posting more regularly has many benefits.

The most important benefit is that it allows you to build your reputation through thought leadership in your industry.

To be perceived as the go-to expert in your field, you have to be known as the person who always talks about X. This is only possible if you show up at least two to three times a week and strategically build your LinkedIn network.

Frequent LinkedIn posts also help you as a business owner to become a better content creator by developing good content production habits. This improves the quality of your content and makes it more effective in converting readers into paying customers.

Regular posts are small reminders to your ideal audience that you still exist. This is more important than you think. Most people have a short memory span and quickly forget names and brands if they don't hear from them on a regular basis.

That is one of the reasons why large corporations such as Coca-Cola spend billions on untargeted brand awareness ads.

Daily and weekly LinkedIn posts have a similar effect. They keep the memory of who you are and how you can help them alive, so when they one day face a problem that you can solve, they will remember to reach out to them.

More frequent posts also help with the LinkedIn algorithm. LinkedIn is constantly testing which users are reacting to specific topics and content types. All data points are stored and processed by AI to make better recommendations.

By publishing fresh content regularly, you give LinkedIn all the data it needs to recommend your content to more relevant people.

How to develop a LinkedIn content strategy?

Developing a LinkedIn content strategy is simple. First, identify your ideal clients and then create a content cluster strategy for your pillar content topics.

These broader topic groups can then be turned into a content plan with specific post- and video-topic ideas.

How to create LinkedIn content in bulk?

Creating many pieces of content in bulk works much better than creating each post on-the-spot. The secret behind this principle is called being in a flow state.

In other words, it takes a while for our brain to adjust and optimize our thought process to perform a specific task. This is especially true if you perform a task only infrequently.

If you only write one post, it might take half an hour to tune your brain into writing mode. The first post usually takes the longest time.

By creating content in bulk, you take advantage of your brain's state when it is finally in writer mode. The second and third posts can usually be written much faster than the first one.

It is essential to take breaks on a regular basis. Otherwise, you are quickly exhausting your brain's writing mode and become less productive.

I highly recommend the Pomodoro Technique, which comprises several cycles of 25 minutes of work, followed by 5 minutes of break.

How to schedule your LinkedIn content?

When you create LinkedIn content in bulk, it is crucial to stay organized. Otherwise, you might forget where you have saved your pre-written content,

I recommend using content scheduling software such as SocialBee to schedule your content.

SocialBee allows you to create content buckets or containers that can be linked to specific posting schedules. For example, a bookkeeping service might have a content bucket called Tax Tip Thursday, where they share specific tips on optimizing your business taxes.

The container can be configured as you like, first in, first out, last in first out, random, etc. I recommend first-in, first-out, and then reordering your posts later if necessary.

The beauty of SocialBee's content buckets is that they can be set to evergreen mode, whereby if you forget to add new content, for example, because of a health condition, SocialBee will automatically recycle and repost some of your older posts.

This way, you never forget to post content on a regular basis. Most people will not even notice that you reposted something if enough time passes.
