If you want to get more views and engagement in likes and comments for your LinkedIn posts, you have to understand how to take advantage of the LinkedIn algorithm.
In this article, I share some of my best tips for getting more people to discover and interact with your LinkedIn posts, so you can quickly grow an audience of ideal clients who are eager to buy from you.
Add New Connections and Engage With Them
One of the best ways to get more people to engage with your LinkedIn posts is by building a thriving network of like-minded others on LinkedIn.
Go to the My Network tab and see if you have any pending invitations and accept everyone who would be a great fit.
Then, look for any good suggestions in the People You May Know section and send out a few connection requests each day.
The tricky part comes: you have to first engage with your new connections. Start a conversation by sending them a private message or leaving a meaningful comment under one of their posts.
And before you know it, they will return the favor and comment on some of your posts.
Switch to LinkedIn Creator Mode
LinkedIn recently confirmed its strong commitment to the content creator economy by introducing the LinkedIn Creator Mode.
The LinkedIn Creator Mode allows you to switch from a job seeker profile to a content creator profile with many added benefits.
One of its perks is adding relevant hashtags to your profile. These hashtags explain what topics you're talking about and help you increase your organic discoverability when you share content on LinkedIn.
In other words, if you use the same hashtags on your LinkedIn Creator Mode profile and in one of your posts, this post has a higher probability to been discovered by people who follow the same hashtag.
Follow Relevant Hashtags
The same tactic also works the other way around too.
Decide which hashtags you want to rank for, then start following all of these hashtags.
LinkedIn is always trying to get interesting new content in front of people who share the same interests.
Part of this LinkedIn sub-algorithm creates lookalike audiences based on similar hashtags. The idea is that people who follow the same hashtags are similar and have a higher likelihood of enjoying each other's content.
By following the same LinkedIn hashtags as someone in your ideal audience, you increase the chances that one of your posts will be shown (by LinkedIn) to your ideal audience.
On a separate note, I strongly urge you to download my LinkedIn Hashtag Guide, where you'll be shown how to research and identify the best hashtags to grow your business.
Create a LinkedIn Page
LinkedIn profiles typically enjoy an unfair traffic boost when sharing content on LinkedIn over company pages.
One of the main reasons for this phenomenon is that LinkedIn artificially lowers the organic reach of pages to get business owners with big pockets to invest in ads.
Another reason is that most companies don't understand the basics of how to create fun and engaging content on LinkedIn.
If you are OK with having a slightly lower reach, you can effectively increase your organic reach by 30% to 50%, simply by sharing content from your LinkedIn profile on your LinkedIn page.
This works incredibly well, especially if your posts are fun and engaging.
Add Hashtags to Your LinkedIn Page
You can also add relevant hashtags to your LinkedIn page. This has two significant benefits.
The organic reach of your LinkedIn page content will be boosted if your page + post hashtags match.
LinkedIn will also suggest relevant industry posts to you, so you can leave a comment as your page to connect with potential customers.
Further down, I am going to share another cool hack that you can only do with a LinkedIn company page.
Follow Relevant Company Pages
Remember what I told you about following relevant hashtags for your ideal audience?
Well, the same works for following LinkedIn company pages too.
By following the same companies as your ideal clients, LinkedIn assumes that you are similar to your target audience and makes it more likely that your content receives an organic boost.
Here are some ideas of what type of LinkedIn company pages to follow that will get you results fast:
Your main competitors.
Ideal customers.
Industry news organizations and publications.
Tag People and Company Pages in Your Posts
Did you know that you can tag LinkedIn profiles and LinkedIn pages in your posts?
It's super simple. Just type in the @ symbol, followed by slowly typing the name of a person or business you want to mention in your post.
Once you publish your post, whoever has been tagged in your post will receive a notification that they have been mentioned in someone else's post.
This can dramatically boost your organic reach.
Engage With Your Own LinkedIn Posts
Psssst... Let me tell you a little secret.
You can boost your LinkedIn organic reach by engaging with your post!
For once, nobody wants to be the first person to write a comment or press the like button. By adding at least one like and one comment, you remove the awkwardness of being the first and consequently get more people to engage.
It also adds social proof and increases the perceived credibility of your post. Even if the first engagement is purely yours, most people don't pay close attention to who liked a post. All they see is the thumbs-up icon.
The most significant benefit of this tactic is that the LinkedIn algorithm will boost any post that receives early engagement.
Here are a few ways how you can engage with your post.
Write a comment under your own post via your LinkedIn profile or page.
Press the like or any other reaction button both as your LinkedIn profile and page.
Share your LinkedIn profile post on your LinkedIn page.
Post at the Right Time When Your Ideal Audience Is Online
Sharing a new post on a specific day of the week at a particular time significantly impacts your post's engagement.
The first three hours of any post act as proof of concept for LinkedIn to see who your post is relevant for. (If you want to learn more about how the LinkedIn algorithm work, check out my article: How does the LinkedIn algorithm work?)
Whoever engages first sets the stage for all future engagement.
When someone engages with a comment of like, there is a high probability that one of their connections or followers will also discover your content.
So if you want to get USA engagement but then share your content at 2 AM Pacific Time, the chances are that most of your post views will come from Australia/New Zealand.
So make sure you know who you are targeting and when most of your ideal audience is awake, so you know the best time to post your content on LinkedIn.
Write Like a Person
A straightforward way to boost views and engagement on LinkedIn is by changing your writing style from corporate speak to talking like a real human being.
Avoid any jargon! I am talking about the new normal, synergies, big data, disrupting, cloud-centric, and other suspects.
Would you use these words with your friends who don't work in the same industry? Of course not! So don't use them in your LinkedIn posts, and you will notice that your engagement will skyrocket.
Experiment With Different Content Types
The LinkedIn algorithm is constantly changing. Every once in a while, a new content type of the week gets heavily boosted. Then one month later, another content type rises to the top.
The best advice I can give you is to have a good content type mix to keep things interesting for users with different content preferences. (For other ways to protect yourself against changes in the LinkedIn algorithm, my article: LinkedIn Algorithm Changes will come in handy.)
Some people prefer reading; others love to watch videos.
Here is a non-exhaustive list of LinkedIn's content types you can use:
As you can see, there are so many fun and exciting ways to boost your engagement on LinkedIn.
But this is just the beginning.
Suppose you want to get the most out of LinkedIn. In that case, you also have to work on your big-picture content cluster strategy and then craft a content schedule that works with your busy schedule to consistently create and publish amazing content to attract ideal clients into your LinkedIn sales funnel.
